Ejanul's Message, 24 October 2013

It was an honour to welcome Cr Catherine Cumming, Mayor, Maribyrnong City Council and one of our past members, to our club last week. It was good to hear about the success of the projects and the challenges she has experienced during her tenure as
Mayor of Footscray’s diverse community. She gave a passionate talk on a range of issues and projects that have arisen during her 16 years as a councillor. She is very proud of the many developments she has observed in and around Footscray over the years. I would like to congratulate her for being a part of many successful projects. It was my pleasure to welcome other guests to our meeting , namely, Margaret Cumming, Greta Cumming, Cr Cameron McDonald, Peter Batzakis and our exchange student Marlene. I would also like to thank our members for their special effort in attending last week’s meeting.

On Thursday evening (17.10.2013) I represented our club at a Citizenship Ceremony at the City of Maribyrnong. George Kerry (Jnr) and Fred Maddern could not come this time due to other commitments. Mayor Cr Catherine Cumming was also absent and Past Mayor Cr. Sarah Carter represented the Mayor and gave the certificates to nearly 70 new citizens, who have joined our great Australian family and pledged their loyalty to Australia and its people. I gave a speech during the ceremony and welcomed the new citizens by handing out the trees and Australian flags. I talked to a few new citizens after the ceremony and they shared their journey and experience. It was good to talk to them and share my own journey as well.

Seeing the bushfires in NSW over the past few days, which have destroyed thousands of hectares of forest, crops and several properties/houses, devastates me. Fire fighters are working day and night to save the properties and people’s lives. I salute the fire fighters for their courage and pray for the families who have lost their homes etc. Please read the article inside the bulletin stating how we can support those
who have suffered through these fires.

Our Club Vision Program will be held on 26 th October at Footscray Hockey Club: McIvor Reserve, Fogarty Avenue, Yarraville and the program will start at 8.30 am and conclude at 12.30 and I am looking forward to participate in it with other members. It will certainly be an interesting program for our club and I would like to thank the members for agreeing to participate in it.

Please enjoy your week, stay connected and work hard and let's together reshape our society, our world better.
