I was delighted to welcome our outgoing 2014 Group Study Exchange (GSE) team to our club on 3rd of April, 2014. The GSE team will be going to Germany (District 1860) in May and we are sure they will enjoy their time in Germany and will bring back lots of good memories with them. The team includes the team leader Phil West (Rotary Club of Bendigo) and Gemma Welch (Sponsor Club: Rotary Club of Next Generation Bendigo), Hamish Jones (Sponsor Club: Rotary Club of Keilor), Isabella Argyropoulos (Sponsor Club: Rotary Club of Footscray) and Jarrod Epps (Sponsor Club: Rotary Club of Eaglehawk). On behalf of our club I wish them a pleasant and fruitful visit to Germany.
It was unfortunate that we could not find our projector on the night and the team had to present without it. Nevertheless, they did a great presentation and took us through some beautiful cities in Germany. They also sang a song in German which was fantastic. I want to thank Sika Kerry and our exchange student Marlene who joined singing with the team during the song. We all enjoyed it.
It was my pleasure to welcome Sika Kerry to our club last week. I had a quick chat with her and she is coping well after our dearest friend George Kerry (Snr) left us. I would like to wholeheartedly thank her for visiting us and we are looking forward to seeing her again in near future. Sika will always be welcome at our club.
The second toilet block for 2013-14 Hobsons Bay Cluster Project is being built in Bangladesh. Under the Cluster project, a total three toilet blocks will be built this year, which will help over 1000 primary school children and local residents in the area of health and sanitation. A big thanks to the cluster clubs who have been working together on this project for past four years.
Also note that, we will have the Community Awards Night on 1st May. This is always an evening paying tribute to the important and selfless work by volunteers. Advise your partners and friends in advance so they can join us on that wonderfully special night.
Please enjoy your week, stay connected and let's together reshape our society, making our world better.
