Ejanu's Message, 27 February 2014

May I request you all to give a very warm welcome to our 2014 Group Study Exchange (GSE) team from Germany (District 1860). The GSE team will be with us four days (27th Feb-2nd March) and we hope they will enjoy their time with us and will take back lots of good memories with them. On behalf of our club I wish them a pleasant and fruitful visit to our club and to our district.

It’s a great occasion to welcome and induct our newest member Brad Sleurink. It’s a great privilege for me to induct Brad and introduce him to the great Rotary family. I wish him well and am sure he will contribute to and enjoy being a member of our club, will achieve many Rotary goals and will be part of changing lives of many disadvantage people throughout the world.

It was a grand farewell to our dearest friend, George Kerry (Snr) on 21st February (Friday) at Holy Protection Cathedral, Brunswick East. Nearly 25 of our members and their partners attended the ceremony. I want to thank everyone for being part of the formal ceremony in order to say a final goodbye to George. Sika and George (Jnr) managed everything well and their families, friends and guests were very pleased to be part of that occasion.

George joined our club in 1980 and since then he contributed to our club in many ways. Some of our members, including myself, joined the club through him and he was one of our most regular members. Our club honoured George in 1999-2000 by giving him a Paul Harris Fellow. He was president and vice president for number of organisations and was a Justice of Peace since 1974. Once again, I extend my sincere sympathy to Sika, George (Jnr) and their extended family members.

Also I was very sad after being informed that Royce Abbey AO.DCM, Past President Rotary International, passed away last week. Royce was a very valuable member of our district and he will be missed by all of us. On behalf of our club, I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends. His Memorial Service will be held at the Melbourne Town Hall at 2.30pm on Friday 28th February. It would be a great tribute if you are able to attend the ceremony.

Please enjoy your week, stay connected and let's together reshape our society, our world better.

Regards, Ejanul
