Graeme's message, 11 September 2014

New generations month continues and it was fitting that two of our guests last Thursday evening were from the Girl Guides. Bridget Allison is Deputy Regional Manager in the Northwest Region and Sudipa Chatterjee District Manager Maribrynong and attended to find out about Rotary following an approach by Maria Silber.

Movement was formally founded, with the establishment of the Girl Guides Association (United Kingdom). District 9800 have entered into a Corporate Partnership with Girl Guides Victoria. In a recent letter to Presidents of District 9800, Robinette Emonson Chief Commissioner Girl Guides Australia stated:

“At a local level Guide Units will be able to connect with their local Rotary Club to the mutual benefit of both organizations. Rotary offers many programs for young people ranging from leadership training to international exchange programs. There will be many opportunities for guides to participate in these activities. In exchange guides could offer their time to the Rotary Club to assist with a range of Rotary projects such as service projects and fundraising efforts”.

We look forward to exploring ways of developing this partnership.

Our club will celebrate “New Generations” month with a special meeting on September 25th when some of the young people who have received awards from our club in recent years will attend.

We were pleased to welcome Dorothy Manwu and Bob James as new members last week . Dorothy is new to Rotary and we hope she has a long and rewarding time in Rotary. Bob has transferred his membership from Sunshine and has received special recognition from District 9800 for his long-standing contribution to that club.

In closing, an apology to Alfonso because in my message last week I wrote that he was from Brazil!! Of course, he is from Spain.

Have a good week.
