New Generations (NG) month continues and the meeting on Sept 25th will have a special focus on NG. We will be welcoming Catriona Robinson who attended a National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) with support from our club.
In last week’s Bulletin there was an article concerning New Generations urging Rotary Clubs to “.....be committed to involving youth and young adults in vocational, community, and international projects...”
The Rotary Club of Footscray can be proud of its record in Rotary’s fifth avenue of service –New Generations. The commitment is demonstrated by:
- Student Exchange program
- Lawrence and Margaret Atley Music Scholarship
- Doug Mills Scholarship supporting a disadvantaged student through Years 11/12
- Supporting students attending NYSF
- Carol Castano Literacy prize
We are about to make the first presentation of the Evan Philips’ Scholarship. This scholarship bridges New Generations and Vocation and honors Evan Phillips who was President of the club in 185-86 and secretary 1999-2009. The award will be to a young person involved in an apprenticeship program and has been facilitated in association with Skill Australia Foundation. The scholarship will assist with fees, a skills training program in addition to TAFE studies, and experience at a world class employer in their chosen industry.
At the Board meeting last week it was resolved that our meeting on November 6th will be cancelled in favour of us supporting a Gateway Cluster function on the Wednesday 5th of November. This is an exciting initiative during Cup Week and Bernard Saundry CEO of Racing Victoria will be the speaker (details attached).
The other important outcome at Board was support for Corporate Membership. This approach recognizes the need to provide flexibility for senior executives and managers who find regular attendance impossible. Associate members are nominated as part of the corporate membership and by their attendance regular contact is maintained with the corporate entity.
Joy and I are looking forward to hosting a club function at our place in the country on 25th October. We will be having a BBQ lunch so please come and enjoy fellowship with other Rotarians. If needed transport will be provided by other club members.
Have a good week.
