Graeme's Message, 9 April 2015

Dear Rotarians and friends,

April is designated as Rotary Magazine Month. Rotary Down Under (RDU) is the magazine for Australian and New Zealand Rotarians. Rotarians are required to compulsorily subscribe to one of 31 regional publications such as RDU or “The Rotarian”, which was the first Rotary Magazine and is compulsory for Rotarians in the USA and Canada. Our club members are subscribed to RDU but I receive editions irregularly and I wonder if that is the experience of other members of our club?

Rotary Down Under commenced in 1965, from independent initiatives of two Rotary Clubs (Bayswater in Victoria and Newtown in NSW). The name Rotary Down Under was adopted by the Governors of the time from a long list of suggestions.

There are other “magazine” publications that inform Rotarians including D9800’s “Networker”, Rotary History Global Fellowship, WASRAG (Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group) and Rotary Foundation Newsletter and many others, all delivered electronically. Although we distribute our Bulletin by email we still print some copies for those who do not use email. Many clubs are increasingly posting their newsletters onto Facebook and Websites as the sole means of communication.

A great deal of work goes into these publications and I wish to acknowledge the high standard of our Bulletin produced with much effort and dedication by Diane McGrath. I hope you all read the articles Diane sources from RI websites to inform you of Rotary activities across the globe.

Last Wednesday Joy and I attended the Footscray Probus Changeover luncheon when Leon McCoubrie (left) was installed as President. Fellow Rotarians David Graham, Ted Logan and John Davis were also present. We enjoyed a chat with Jean McNish who is keeping well.

I have been advised by Phillip Caruso that Croatia House has been booked for an evening meeting on Thursday 21st May. The speaker will be Sam Tarscio, a prominent developer and Melbourne business identity. Our golf day has been rescheduled for Monday, 25th May.

I trust you all had a good Easter break.

Regards,

.Graeme
