Welcome all to my first newsletter that I am penning to you as your new 79th President of this wonderful Club.

Firstly, you must all be thankful to the late great Evan Philips and that tenacious Rotary recruiter Bill Hogg for enticing me into our Club many years ago.

By the way Bill is recovering slowly, he is keen to get the full use of his legs but healing at his ripe old age takes time.

Our changeover last Thursday evening was a great success and our new Rotary theme ‘Be a Gift to the World’ got me into a lot of hot water. The occasion was graced by the presence of PDG Murray Verso and his wife Irene and Assistant Governor Austen Burleigh and his wife Sue.

We were also honoured to have Bob McNish’s wife Jean and George Kerry’s wife Sika there. Also making it to the occasion was Christine McGregor, a great member and supporter of our club. Whilst on the subject of the changeover I want to acknowledge the hard work of Kathy Krawec and Sara Walker who really made the whole event possible with the invitations, organising the venue and the food. And not to be forgotten, Fred Maddern for being our MC for the evening and Elia for looking after the finances.

We must also congratulate our Paul Harris awardees:

  • Jama Farah
  • Ron Hunt
  • Rodney Johnstone
  • Graeme Thompson

They have contributed tirelessly to the ideals of Rotary service above self and promoted this club with their endeavours.

I must also thank our Past President Graeme Thompson for all he’s done over the past year. It’s a big responsibility to ensure that the Club runs like clockwork, many hundreds of hours have been sacrificed by Graeme so it’s now time for him to depressurise and get reacquainted with Joy. Have a great holiday in China. You deserve it Graeme.

This Thursday we meet and greet our District Governor Julie Mason, I am looking forward to working with her this year with the support of the Club, so make sure you attend for this special occasion and luncheon.

In the coming weeks I will let you know of future events and invitations we will be looking forward to in the coming year.

Have a good week.
