Dear Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

It is with great sadness that it has come to my attention over the passing of our esteemed Rotarian, Dr Eugene Spangaro. His health had been deteriorating over the past few months.

Eugene joined our club in September 1977. He was Club President in the 1989-1990 year and was honoured for his contribution to the club in 1996-1997 and made a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a man with such a friendly heart; I will miss that smile of his that always greeted me. Our sympathies and thoughts are with his family and friends.

At last week’s meeting we had the pleasure of our District Governor, Julie Mason. She had a meeting with our board members to discuss our future plans over the coming year and to address our club about her goals for the coming year. Our club was her first port of call in her appointment diary to visit all the clubs in district 9800. It was also my first meeting as your new president. I inadvertently put on Julie’s District Governor chain collar so I was privileged to be the District Governor for about 20 minutes until the mishap was discovered!

In her presentation, Julie made reference to both John Davis and Lauwence Altey, acknowledging how helpful and influential they had been in her Rotary journey.

In last week’s Bulletin I forgot to acknowledge our energetic Sergeant and dentist extraordinaire, Dr Jamie Robertson’s Paul Harris Award at our changeover dinner. So congratulations Jamie you are truly a gift to the world.

On Wednesday I will converge on Tullamarine Airport to pick up our latest exchange student Frederik Christiansen who hails from Denmark. We’ll get to meet him at our Thursday meeting. We will be looking for host families to accommodate him so if you can spare the time and accommodation please let Maria Silber know.

Have a great week.
