Angus Message, 11 February 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Last Sunday, Kathy and I spent a couple of hours enjoying the sunshine and company of D9800 Alumni, their families and friends at the Yarraville Gardens for a BBQ lunch.

Our DG Julie Mason was also in attendance. Our very own PP Ejanul Hague was instrumental in organising the event and it was a great initiative. Our very own vegetarian Jamie Robertson was cooking the sausages! Now, that’s a photo worth keeping! Assisting Jamie was Rodney Johnson who helped set up the BBQ and supplied it for the occasion.

Rodney is always doing good deeds for the club and as president, cannot thank him enough. Also a thank you to Jamie who increases the club’s wealth each week!

After I left the Yarraville Gardens, I headed off to the Yarraville Festival. Wall-to-wall people were enjoying a sunny Sunday eating, drinking and rocking to the moves of the ever so loud band and their music. I even got an informative talk from a Freemason, as the Masonic lodge was open for public viewing.

The reason I mentioned the Yarraville Festival, is that our club being part of the Gateway cluster, will be assisting with manpower at the Moonee Valley Festival where we will be helping with the BBQ. We have one BBQ for the carnivores and one for the vegetarians. They anticipate around 40,000 people will attend, so we stand to generate a reasonable amount of income that will help fund some of Gateway’s outstanding projects.

So members, we only require a couple of hours of your time on Sunday, 28th February, 2016. Most Board Members at Monday night’s meeting have indicated their willingness to assist so if you can help we never say no to givers.

Monday night’s Board Meeting was very productive. The Victorian University Art Show is progressing extremely well with some substantial funding donations being received. For our club we have been given a great opportunity to raise funds at the Rotary Dinner which is connected to the Art Show.

We are very focused on increasing our membership numbers and at the next night meeting we will be inducting Tony Le from Bendigo Bank.

Finally, don’t forget RC of Essendon North’s 40th Birthday function on Wednesday 24th February, 2016 for a 6.45pm start at Ascot House Reception. John Harms sportswriter and broadcaster will be a very interesting speaker. (He might have an opinion on the Essendon saga?)

In any case, attendance at this function constitutes a makeup and should be a great night out for you and your partner. I’ll be there.

Have a great week.

Regards,

Your President Angus

P.S. Don’t forget that the Maribyrnong Mayor Cameron McDonald will be our guest speaker this Thursday. So don’t miss what should be a most informative talk. (The parking meter saga should be interesting).
