Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Last Sunday I, along with Brad Sleurink, Maria Silber and Emanuel Tumino attended the Rotary Youth Exchange Blazer presentation dinner at International House in Parkville. Our exchange student Malena Catto is heading off to Austria on the 16th of January next year.

There were sixteen students who were presented with blazers and Europe was the most popular destination with a couple going to Brazil. Each student had to give a brief talk about themselves in the language of their destination country before telling us in English what they had said. I noticed that girls were in the majority of those going. What an exciting time and it shows their character of independence and ambition and appetite for discovery. I never had that opportunity at their age but you do need confidence and desire. How fortunate these students are forging everlasting friendships and contacts.

Allan Warrener rang me during the week to let me know that District Governor Julie Mason had invited him to give the conference attendees a talk about his knowledge on wellbeing. You can't keep a good man down and our club is so fortunate to have him as part of our rotary family.

As president of our club, I attended the final Gateway meeting for the year last Thursday. It was chaired by Assistant Governor Colin Styles. Our Gateway Cluster Presidents never cease to amaze me with their Endeavours and 'Can Do' attitude. We are looking at revitalizing our "Keeping Our Kids Alive" forum and expanding it to other locations in the western suburbs. The death of another girl from a suspected drug overdose highlights the need for better teenage education in areas of drugs and mental health.

On the evening of the 17th of December we will be holding our last Rotary meeting for the year and our Secretary has organised a famous Croatian Club Buffet. This will be a chance to invite your partners, family members and your staff members. We have a great guest speaker and your support by way of attendance will ensure it will be a great evening.

Please advise Kathy as we need to advise the Croatian Club of number attending.

Enjoy the gift of life,
Angus
